How SMOOTHLIPO™ Works – Clinically proven in more than 1000 cases
SmoothLipo™ is a step beyond Laser-Assisted Lipolysis. The system targets localized fat deposits using a carefully selected 980 nm wavelength. The 980 nm absorption profile allows for faster, more homogenous heating of targeted areas producing a more uniform result.
Continuous wave (CW) laser energy uniformly raises the temperature of the treatment area to 45-55°C, which is high enough to cause irreversible changes leading to apoptosis of the adipocytes. This process is a more efficient and effective approach that continues well after aspiration has been completed. It also allows for higher energies to be used safely and results in a smooth and uniform outcome.
The heating of the tissue can also lead to a desirable skin retraction or tightening, thus improving the overall cosmetic effect, especially in areas of high laxity.
The unique output of the SmoothLipo System, heats the adipocytes more gently, raising the temperature of the treatment zone to a uniform temperature in the range of 45–55°C, which is sufficient to cause irreversible changes leading to apoptosis.
The SmoothLipo System uses continuous wave (CW) energy, which is less dangerous to surrounding tissues and optical fibers and can be used to deliver significantly higher average energies for greater treatment speed and efficacy.
Pulsed lasers are used to create the high peak temperatures. Unfortunately, these high peak energies can also more easily cause damage to both surrounding tissue and the optical fibers that deliver them.

Though the SmoothLipo technology is ideal for reduction of fat in problem areas, cellulite is not specifically addressed. If cellulite is also a concern of your patient, SmoothLipo can be used in conjunction with our proprietary SmoothShapes® cellulite reduction technology to enhance results. Additionally, a few SmoothShapes treatments prior to a SmoothLipo procedure will prepare the adipose tissue slated for removal during Laser-Assisted Lipolysis, allowing for more complete fat removal during aspiration without sacrificing safety. |
